Parts of the performance will be broadcast later for the program "Applause in a Small Room." Last year, our quartets introduced HPR listeners to the barbershop art form in a well-received performance that led to this year's invitation. This time the show will take a look at the barbershop genre and its relationship to some of the most important and influential American popular music from the 1920s through the 1950s, often created for Broadway theatre, musical theatre, and the Hollywood musical film industry. Like last year, individual quartets will be featured and also will perform some numbers together as a larger ensemble. Tickets are $25 general admission, $20 for HPR members, and $15 for students with ID. They can be ordered online at www.hprtickets.org or by calling the station at (808) 955-8821 during regular business hours. As we mentioned last year, the Atherton Studio really is a wonderful community resource in its own right. Come experience it for yourself!
