A Cappella Academy Hawaii

Rehearsal Location:
Honolulu , HI
Hawaii

The Sounds of Aloha Chorus periodically organizes A Cappella Academies for high school singers, most recently in 20152019, 2020, and 2022. The first A Cappella Academies were for young men, but now we are excited to collaborate with our sister choruses, Honolulu Blend and Na Leo Lani and offer it to young women as well. We even held a virtual A Cappella Academy in 2020 during the pandemic, with students self-recording at home and the results compiled into a fabulous virtual chorus you can view right here as the finale to the Sounds of Aloha's virtual benefit concert that year for Hawaii Theatre, Songs of the Season

The 2024 A Cappella Academy will be in late August, with singers gathering late afternoon on Friday, August 23, and then on Saturday, August 24 to be featured that evening in the Sounds of Aloha comedy "Capes and Chords: The Last Finale of the Gray Guardians!" Visiting clinicians will be the fabulous international championship quartet Main Street.

Participating A Cappella Academy students receive sheet music and audio learning tracks to some a cappella songs, and after a day and a half of coaching and rehearsing over a weekend give a live public performance that also features any guest clinician quartets or individuals. The program usually is offered for a nominal fee, with one or more meals, and T-shirts, included.

Mahalo nui loa to the Atherton Family Foundation for its generous support of the A Cappella Academy.
