SOA Continues Memorial Day Tradition

One of the favorite performances the Sounds of Aloha is the Mayor's Memorial Day Ceremony at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific at Pūowaina. For years, we have been proud and privileged to share our music with veterans, their families, military leaders and personnel, and local and foreign dignitaries as we gather to remember those who gave their lives serving our country. After a pandemic interruption, the event recommenced last year, and we were happy to be back again this year.

One tradition we especially love at this event is when we sing a medley of the U.S. military service anthems, and current members, veterans, and loved ones of each service stand when we get to their anthem. This year was extra fun because it was the first year we incorporated "Semper Supra," the anthem of the U.S. Space Force, into the medley. We suspect the Sounds of Aloha might even be one of the first groups to do this. Believe us when we say changing a piece you've been singing for 30 or 40 years ain';t easy!
