Plans are underway for the 2019 A Cappella Academy! More information will be posted here as it comes in, including the online application, but for now we know the event will be held on Saturday, June 8, and Sunday, June 9, 2019. Rehearsal will be held on Saturday at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, and the finale concert will performed at the Hawaii Theatre on Sunday at 6:00 p.m. The other times and locations still are in planning. We are so grateful for the generous support of these outstanding venues and their benefactors, who are making this special event possible.
We're also especially excited that this year's academy will be open to young women as well as young men! We are collaborating with our sister choruses, Honolulu Blend and Na Leo Lani, and as visiting clinicians and performers we will have not only the sensational world champion men's quartet Vocal Spectrum but also a fabulously exciting top women's quartet, GQ.
The Sounds of Aloha Chorus organized the first Hawaii Honors A Cappella Academy for high school- and college-aged male singers in 2014. That event also featured Vocal Spectrum, which as a result of several appearances at Sounds of Aloha events over the years has developed a strong local following. You also can read about the 2015 A Cappella Academy, featuring another awesome world champion quartet, OCTimes, and pictured above, on this page.
Participants will receive sheet music and audio learning tracks prior to the festival, and they will rehearse on one evening and by day before performing in a free public concert on a second evening. There will be a modest fee. Lunch and dinner likely will be provided.
