The Sounds of Aloha Chorus has for many years proudly performed for the Mayor’s Memorial Day Ceremony at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific at Pūowaina. It’s always a moving commemoration observed by many military and government dignitaries, service personnel and veterans, community groups, and others who want to pay tribute to the bravery and sacrifice of fallen heroes. The Scouts adorn all the markers with flags and lei made by community volunteers at gatherings all over the island in the preceding weeks. Other ceremony features include a military aircraft flyover and remarks from the Mayor, one of the top locally stationed military commanders, and others, as well as participation by local JROTC students, a color guard, the playing of taps, the laying of many wreaths, and music from our chorus and from the Royal Hawaiian Band.
This year we will perform again, on Monday, May 25, starting at 8:30 a.m. If you’ve never been, we recommend it highly!
