Topping Off the Ice Cream with Harmony and Fun!

Sounds of Aloha's picture

This year the Sounds of Aloha served up Sundaes on a Saturday with their popular annual ice cream party, held this year at McCoy Pavilion in Ala Moana Park on Saturday, August 19, 2017. Wide-eyed kids and other patrons were treated not only to all-you-can-eat Dave's Ice Cream, but also to great singing, at first up close and personal and later on stage, by five quartets and the full chorus.

The relaxed and informal stage program started out with a couple of crowd-pleasers from the chorus, "I'm Gonna Live Till I Die" and "Orange-Colored Sky." Our newest quartet, Full Measure, then kicked off an impromptu parade of quartets with a performance of "Who Will Buy?" from the musical "Oliver!" that really announced their arrival as a quartet to be reckoned with! Wong Fu next added to the day's cuisine theme with a catchy and animated rendition of "Java Jive." Funny Bones had the whole room off-count with their off-beat version of "I Got Rhythm." Resonance lived up to its name with "You Don't Know Me," which most people know from the Ray Charles version. And you could have heard a pin drop when 19th Avenue performed Bill Joel's "Lullaby." The chorus brought it home with terrific arrangements of "Put Your Head on My Shoulder" and "Blue Skies."

Finally, the audience got the earliest advance word on the Sounds of Aloha's next exciting event: our October 7 monsters show!
