Not Your Usual Spaghetti Fundraiser!

Sounds of Aloha's picture

The spaghetti dinner fundraiser is a time-honored tradition among all kinds of small community non-profits and religious communities. It's affordable, and it features what for many people is good, kid-friendly comfort food. But the Sounds of Aloha Chorus 2016 Cabaret on September 24, 2016, might have raised the expectations bar for an event like this.

On the gastronomic side, SOA's second annual Cabaret inspired quite a few surprised declarations from patrons about how great the food was! Let's face it, comfort food is comfort food, and when you go to small fundraising dinner, you might expect food that's, well, mostly filling. Musical Director Mark Conching and his singing assistants proved multi-talented, however. Not only were the attendees well-fed (and this crowd could eat!), but many complimented the meal.

And then there was the entertainment! Quartets performed tableside for small groups of patrons before dinner and again as part of the chorus program later. That program featured many different kinds of songs, knit together in an upbeat and informative program that celebrated the joy of singing and of the American songbook in its glorious and ever-expanding variety.

By the way, if you're a Facebook user, please check out SOA's Facebook page, where we'll be posting photos from the event. We hope you'll "like" the page if you haven't already done so, as that's a great way to stay on top of one of the best kept secrets in the Honolulu music scene -- and to make it a little less a secret by sharing it with others! While you're at it, make sure you're signed up on our contact list so in the future we can let you know about more great upcoming family events like the Cabaret.
