The Sounds of Aloha Chorus has a standing invitation to men of all ages to come try some a cappella harmonizing. Things are on the upswing for SOA, and we aim to keep growing in 2018! Guests of all kinds, but especially prospective singers, are welcome at any chorus rehearsal. If you (or a guy you know) could use some more music and fun in your life, or if you're curious about barbershop harmony, or if you sing in church and want to give another style of music a try, or if you have a thing for contemporary a cappella music but aren't sure how to pursue it, you really owe it to yourself to take a chance! These guys did!
SOA aims high musically, but we have a strong commitment to teaching and developing the musical and performance talents of our members. Led by our gifted musical director Mark Conching, we pride ourselves on our ability to teach ordinary singers to perform extraordinarily. Some guys come to SOA with degrees in music and extensive singing experience, while others join who never have sung in a choral group before and can't sight-read a note of music but have a good ear (and heart) for singing. Our members include teenagers, octogenarians, and everybody in between. Learn about joining the chorus here. But if you just want to check it out sometime, that's good too.
We normally rehearse at the Ala Wai Golf Course Clubhouse at 404 Kapahulu Avenue, in the second floor ballroom known as the Palladium, at 7:00 p.m. Due to maintenance issues at the Palladium, we sometimes will have to rehearse in other locations and at slightly different times, so please check our Events listing during the week of the rehearsal in question to confirm the location and time for that week. We also sometimes hold a Guest Singer Program, where we invite guys to come learn just a few songs with us and sing with us in a performance, without necessarily joining the chorus long-term.
Please help us spread the word to men you know. We do not exaggerate when we say the message could be life-changing. Seriously. Aside from the music, the joy, laughter, and fellowship Sounds of Aloha members enjoy are truly something special. We can't wait to share it all with more people!
